This course introduces major conceptual frameworks for reasoning through environmental problems. Topics include intrinsic value, social constructions of nature, environmental economics, ecofeminism, wilderness, environmental pragmatism, bioregionalism, place ethics, narrative, deep ecology, virtue, and sustainability. Through discussion of specific cases, students assess how various ethical approaches attempt to guide practical decision making for individual experience and public policy.
