Natural Resources Wales is a Welsh Government sponsored body, which became operational from 1 April 2013, when it took over the management of the natural resources of Wales.
NRW’s purpose is to "pursue sustainable management of natural resources” and “apply the principles of sustainable management of natural resources” as stated in the Environment (Wales) Act 2016.
As champion of the natural environment in Wales, NRW wants to make sure that we have clean, healthy, productive and safe seas full of wildlife. It is responsible for the 12 nautical miles from the coastline. The organization works with a wide range of partners across Wales to maintain the health of marine and coastal environments. Their work benefits communities and industries which depend upon these marine and coastal environments.
