Hester van Zuthem

Hester’s aim is to understand the foundations of a sustainable society, and to contribute to social well-being in a sustainable way. With her background in Industrial Design at the TU Delft and Design Cultures at VU Amsterdam, she believes design thinking is more powerful than just the creation of practical consumer products. In a world running out of resources and facing more and more complex social issues, she sees new challenges for designers. At Except she found an enthusiastic group of people that likes to take this challenge together and applies a holistic way of designing.

Being educated as a designer and design researcher, Hester is able to understand (historical) social transitions and to anticipate future needs. Within design processes she likes to analyse problems thoroughly and focuses both on details and the overall picture. She is fascinated by the behaviour of (groups of) people and aims to change this behaviour for the better, by means of design interventions.

She is most happy when she is cycling to Rotterdam on her old racing bike, to spend her day on sustainable development (no matter how complex this sometimes is J). Within Except Hester users her creative and analytical skills to make the SiD methodology understandable for a wider public, and to refine and develop the method where needed.
