Kai behaalde hun masterdiploma Literatuur aan de Universiteit Utrecht, en heeft een passie voor hoe verhalen op een creatieve manier kunnen worden gebruikt om mensen te betrekken bij maatschappelijke vraagstukken op een leuke en wijze. Als mensen de kwesties begrijpen die zich afspelen in hun omgeving (en in de rest van de wereld) door er verhalen over te vertellen, gaat men zich misschien net zo enthousiast voelen over de wereld een betere plek maken.

Als artiest, schrijver en bedenker streeft Kai ervoor dat hun werk bijdraagt aan een duurzame, rechtvaardige en mooie planeet. Kai is nieuwsgierig, leergierig en gelooft sterk in intersectionele, multidisciplinaire oplossingen.

Kai is gespecialiseerd in planningen soepel laten verlopen, communicatie te faciliteren en het team te ondersteunen met een warm drankje.

Eranda is een enthousiaste stedenbouwkundige en ruimtelijk planner, met ervaring in zowel professionele als academische arena's. Ze is vooral geboeid door de intersectie tussen strategisch plannen en design. Sinds ze klein was wist Eranda al dat ze een stedensupervrouw wilde worden, en gebruikte tekeningen en Lego om haar ideeën vorm te geven. Nu ze een professionele planner is maakt Eranda nog steeds graag schetsen, en voor haar ontwerpen gebruikt ze geavanceerdere versies van de Lego waar ze vroeger mee speelde.

Met een PhD in stedenbouwkunde en environmental design brengt Eranda haar superpowers in voor vooruitstrevende  duurzame regio's, steden en gebouwen. 

Eranda is altijd al nieuwsgierig geweest over de wereld waarin we leven, dus zorgde ze ervoor dat ze veel kon reizen door op verschillende plekken te werken en studeren. Als het gaat om het zoeken naar innovatieve oplossingen voor onze dagelijkse uitdagingen houdt Eranda nooit op met nadenken.

Als ze niet bezig is met plannen heeft Eranda ontzettend veel plezier in het runnen van Kikiliciouss met haar twee zussen. Deze start-up, begonnen in 2014, legt zich toe op slow food en brengt duurzaamheid en food design naar onze dagelijkse routine.

Chi is als strategie en business developer in Except verantwoordelijk voor de oost-Aziatische markt, specifiek Vietnam.  Chi heeft veel ervaring in het opereren en managen van verkoop en marketing teams. Ze is scherp en snapt snel wat de klant nodig heeft, ze vertaalt bedrijfsvisie en branding naar producten en diensten en creëert een inspirerende customer-journey. Ze ziet overal kansen, grijpt ze aan en maakt het beste van moeilijke situaties.

Chi heeft een passie voor het creëren van mooie levenservaringen voor mensen, en rondde haar bachelor studie in toerisme, sport en evenement management af aan de drietalige universiteit in het verre noorden van Italië, in de prachtige Alpen. 

 Van kinds af aan heeft Chi's nieuwsgierigheid haar geleid naar een divers palet aan onderwerpen, waarin ze handenvol aan kennis en ervaring op heeft gedaan. Chi is onder andere actief geweest in toerisme, horeca, cosmetica, e-commerce, blockchain, forex, financiële diensten en meer.

Gaandeweg kwam bij haar de drang en passie om meer bij te dragen aan deze wereld. Ze vind dat de expertise, kennis en ervaring die ze heeft opgedaan, werkende bij verschillende bedrijven, in verschillende industrieën, over de hele wereld, nu bij moet dragen om deze wereld een betere plek te maken. Veel organisaties stonden op haar verlanglijst, maar alleen Except kon haar het gevoel geven bij te dragen aan de veranderende wereld. Dus sloot ze zich bij hun missie aan. Om haar levensdroom waar te maken.

Jeroen is een all-round professional in de gebouwde omgeving met managementervaring, en zorgt bij Except voor de strategie op het kantoor. Zijn directe ervaring bij een creatieve organisatie zorgt ervoor dat hij de tools in handen heeft om anderen uit te laten blinken in hun eigen specialiteiten. Zo kan hij hen het werk uit handen waar ze zich liever niet mee bezig houden.

Jeroen heeft een achtergrond als stedenbouwkundig ontwerper. Hij studeerde Urbanism aan de Technische Universiteit in Delft, en heeft ruim 7 jaar ervaring bij een bureau voor stedenbouw en landschapsarchitectuur. Gedurende zijn studie heeft hij een passie ontwikkeld voor DTP-werk in het algemeen en het vormgeven van rapporten en presentaties  in het specifieke. Tijdens zijn werk als stedenbouwkundig ontwerper werd hij gebombardeerd tot office manager, zonder dat dat zijn  expertise in edit- en layout-werk heeft ondermijnd. Jeroen heeft niet alleen gevoel voor creatieve processen, maar ook voor getalletjes en spreadsheets. Deze combinatie komt  hem uitermate  goed uit bij zijn taken als office manager voor Except.

Antonia is an architect with many different passions and several years of experience in sustainable architecture and urban planning. She enjoys creating interactive architecture that focuses on people and the natural environment, making them involved actors instead of just passive users. Pursuing integrated sustainable designs, she challenges herself to always look from different perspectives in order to find solutions that embody economical, ecological and social sustainability.

Born and raised in 1700 year old Split on the Dalmatian coast, she has developed a sensitivity towards cultural and natural heritage since childhood. At the age of 19 Antonia moved to Italy where she graduated in Bachelor and Master degree in Architecture at the University of Florence. During her studies she has developed an interest in Urban Sociology and ever since is passionate in research about the interaction between the built environment and people’s behaviour.

Antonia joined Except initially as an intern during her 2nd level Post-Graduate Course “Sustainable Design of the built environment” and was part of the 1st Except Academy, a learning platform for interns. As an member she continues to support the academy team, eager to further strengthen her skills and help others do the same.

As an architect she believes that design is not only about the form and aesthetics but rather about the added value it generates for the environment and the society. She wants to contribute to re-building cities where people are engaged and active part of the change. In everything she does she always asks herself: why are we doing what we do and how are we contributing to the environment we live in.

Khanh is an architect and urban designer who is passionate about sustainability. With a major in spatial design, Khanh has experience with architectural and urban projects in various scales and categories, at different locations worldwide.

This has helped her to not only sharpen her skills as a designer, but also to accumulate insights about urban issues in different contexts. Khanh wants to use her expertise in spatial design to provide solid sustainable solutions, especially for developing countries.

Aside from design, she is passionate about community projects and sustainability. Khanh has founded, coordinated, and managed several projects related to architecture and urbanism. This is how she gives back to her community. Khanh is running a project called Circular Urban Gardens that focuses on urban agriculture and circular economy, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of States.

Jon is a biotechnologist by choice, and curious by nature. He is always searching for how, and why, a system works like it does -or doesn’t. He enjoys mentally taking things apart to analyze the pieces, to figure out how the thing works, whether machine, human behaviour, natural phenomenon, or societal complexity. As a biotechnologist he often returns to the natural world to find how nature solves a problem, and applies that to systems designed by humans.

The area where technology touches biology fascinates Jon. He is in his element solving these complex interactive systems. From a young age he was enchanted by the ingenious complex systems that are found in nature.  Determined to figure out how it all works, he dedicated his studies to biotechnology.  He adopted a broad knowledge base, and learned that interdisciplinary approaches help solve the toughest of problems, and  that context and creativity are essential. Jon pursued a Bachelor in Biosystems Engineering, and got his Master’s degree in Biotechnology at Wageningen University. Both studies focused on mathematics and systems design and understanding, based on a wide variety of biological and natural processes.

The world, and everything beyond, is fascinating, and Jon aims to understand it all. But until then, he has dedicated his work to enable society, and human life, to become sustainable on this earth. In the process making sure there is a world left for himself to explore.

Pierce can make you a house from a napkin, if you ask him to. He’ll make sure it’s culturally relevant and makes a striking theoretical argument as a bonus. Pierce can take charge of anything ranging from that napkin to a space station, which comes in handy every so often.

Pierce’s all-round skills as an architect on various scales helps Except prepare for any spatial challenge, including project development in various parts of the world.

Pierce has a masters degree from Yale University and a bachelor of Architecture from Ohio State University, and won the 2008 AIA Henry Adams medal. He has worked for Pelli Clarke Pelli architects, NBBJ and ROTO studio, and has worked in the United States and Turkey on Institutional, Cultural and Residential architecture, as well as Urban Design.
